Alessandro Taverna, a 26-year-old from Italy, was named First Prize winner of the fourth Minnesota International Piano-e-Competition, held summer 2009 in Minneapolis. In addition to his cash prize and shiny new Yamaha Disklavier piano, Taverna will embark on a prestigious recital tour including a Fall 2009 debut recital in New York City, sponsored by Yamaha Corporation of America, a CD release on the Ten Thousand Lakes label – and a visit to Salem, Oregon! SCO hosts a Winter Soiree on Jan 24 featuring rarely heard compositions

Salem Chamber Orchestra presents a Winter Soiree on Sunday Jan 24 at 3pm featuring Maria Zlateva, violin, Karen Vincent, viola, and Melisander Wildberger, piano.  The selections on the program are from immigrants that moved from Europe to America, or emigrants from America to Europe. Silk Mountain Project a huge hit!

WOW!  Silk Mountain Project rocked the house last night at SCO’s soiree, Fireside Jazz!

The classical/jazz crossover group comprised of violists Danny Seidenberg and his wife Daryl Silberman, cellist Noah Seitz, and jazz guitarist Christopher Woitach is a fairly new endeavor; this was only their third or fourth show in public.  The group is a reincarnation of Danny’s band in Los Angeles, Unbande; the new name “Silk Mountain” comes from the English translation of “Seidenberg.”  Danny is SCO’s associate principal viola, and was a long time member of the famous Turtle Island String Quartet.  Daryl is the Director of Orchestras at West Salem High School.  Between these two musicians, their classical and studio playing experience alike is formidable.
